Connies Garden • The Real Real Dirt Garden • 1st Shovelfull of Dirt: March 2004

One enters the garden through a redtwig gate made by Katie, my daughter. A temporary fence of chicken wire, steel stakes and branches keeps, North, house dog, out. Cedar mulch paths allow easy access to the vegetables, herbs and flowers. The sweet peas grow on a copper wire trellis nailed to the fence. Pole beans twine up the branch tee pees. Two dwarf plum trees, planted bare root, grow at the north end.
